QOTD: Fail at something

Is it me, or is anything Chimamanda Adichie says often misconstrued and wielded as an example of "oh ye badly behaved Nigerian feminists"? Especially when we’re on the Naija corner of any Social Media platform. I don't need any particular reason, but I thought it was a good time to dust off this draft and share it for a QOTD!

Not that we ever see her failures, or that she shares them with the public at large, but I feel like CNA is always imparting lessons, be they in fashion (have you seen her instagram? Too cool), in the art of VERY smart putdowns to those who dare to come for her stupidly, and in life.

QOTD: An Unlived Life

Happy Monday, y'all. Everyone has been talking about this "never ending January" and I can't help but feel a twinge for the people who started it and didn't get to see its end.

A bit morbid, maybe, but a colleague passed away a few weeks ago and there have been accidents I've heard of involving people I know or know of, the killings happening in Benue state, here in Nigeria, terrorism and bomb blasts, shootings and all sorts of awful things going on around the world.

So death, whether we like it or not, is an ever present factor.

QOTD: New beginnings

Are you holding grudges to your chest? Are you angry at someone or something? Welcome, join the rest of us 😂. But it is time for a new beginning, and what better time to begin than at the start of a new week (are we done with "New Year, New Me, yet?) right? Right.

QOTD: Rejoice in imperfections

I hate not being perfect. When people say being perfect is boring, I'm like "well let me try it first, because feeling like you're not getting things right is not fun either"

But in my moments of clarity, when frustration hasn't gotten the best of me, I get it.

There is nothing that is 100% right, or good, or fun, or lovely, 100% of the time. Not on this earth

QOTD: Live better

Hey y'all!! Have you stopped writing 2017 when writing the date yet? How's the first week of this new year been for you? Share in the comments! Ok, on to the QOTD!

I hate clichés. Especially those ones that are like "feel the fear and do it anyway" or "every thing you want is on the other side of fear." They irk me beyond belief. Which is why I hate that they're also true.   😩

QOTD: Pressure, Passion, Purpose

Happy New Year, y'all!! 2018 certainly arrived with a bang, and I pray it is an amazing one for us all.

I'm not saying don't chase your passion, or don't fulfill what you feel is your purpose, but these days, when it seems like everyone else has it all figured out, everyone else knows exactly what they were born to do, and everyone else is doing so much better than you, it's easy to just want to figure it all out at once and get to whatever the destination is.

QOTD: Think, don't judge

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Since around this time, people are starting to compile their "New Year, New Me" lists and aspirations, here's a suggestion for us all: Judge less, think more.

I often say one of the things that frustrate me most about people, especially in Nigeria, is our lack of consideration and compassion.

QOTD: Tomorrow's load

New week, new joy! If I say it enough, I'll believe it. We have to be intentional about not being dragged down by what could happen tomorrow.

11.png

What also comes to mind is the Bible verse "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

There are so many other saying about not borrowing trouble from the next day, etc. You'd think with all this wisdom, we'd have gotten the message by now, right? As work and life continues to hit us with all they've got, let's intentionally work at taking it piece by piece. How do you demolish a mountain? Piece by piece. So if we approach our challenges like that, it'll be easier not to get overwhelmed. Are you with me?

All the best this week! Knock it out the park!!

QOTD: What happened, happened

I love this quote, because as we get to the end of 2017, this is one of the things I realize I already know, but have to relearn and be reminded of. In not letting go of the mistakes we've made and in attaching our self-worth or value to things that haven't gone perfectly, we do ourselves a huge disservice. It's no fun being perfect, anyway, so why are we killing ourselves to do it?

12.png

Whether the Universe, God, or whichever higher power we choose to believe in has seen it fit to shake you up and shift you around, believe that that shift is just redirection. Don't mope too long; keep moving.

Have an amazing week! Do you have any (counter)advice on this? Let us know in the comments :)

QOTD: Letting life cut you open

Who told you to dare be less than what you were made to be? I already know the answer. Life, right? Yeah, it's done it to me, too. It's done it to a lot of us. Being your real, full self sometimes takes a lot more courage than we think we have, but even if it takes baby steps, like saying No to something or someone once, or deciding to tell someone the truth about your feelings and thoughts, then do that. The longer we cling to ideas, things or people that don't help us move forward, the more harm we do ourselves in the long run. It's a brand new month, and the year is coming to an end. Do yourself this favor, and let go. Growth is never a bad thing.

Remember this; being honest and true to yourself should be your priority. Be the best version of yourself you can be; everyone else will be just fine.

As much as I'm talking to you, I'm talking to myself! Am I right or am I right? Let me know what you think in the comment box, y'all! Till next time.
