Is it me, or is anything Chimamanda Adichie says often misconstrued and wielded as an example of "oh ye badly behaved Nigerian feminists"? Especially when we’re on the Naija corner of any Social Media platform. I don't need any particular reason, but I thought it was a good time to dust off this draft and share it for a QOTD!
Not that we ever see her failures, or that she shares them with the public at large, but I feel like CNA is always imparting lessons, be they in fashion (have you seen her instagram? Too cool), in the art of VERY smart putdowns to those who dare to come for her stupidly, and in life.
Happy Monday, y'all. Everyone has been talking about this "never ending January" and I can't help but feel a twinge for the people who started it and didn't get to see its end.
A bit morbid, maybe, but a colleague passed away a few weeks ago and there have been accidents I've heard of involving people I know or know of, the killings happening in Benue state, here in Nigeria, terrorism and bomb blasts, shootings and all sorts of awful things going on around the world.
So death, whether we like it or not, is an ever present factor.
Are you holding grudges to your chest? Are you angry at someone or something? Welcome, join the rest of us 😂. But it is time for a new beginning, and what better time to begin than at the start of a new week (are we done with "New Year, New Me, yet?) right? Right.
I hate not being perfect. When people say being perfect is boring, I'm like "well let me try it first, because feeling like you're not getting things right is not fun either"
But in my moments of clarity, when frustration hasn't gotten the best of me, I get it.
There is nothing that is 100% right, or good, or fun, or lovely, 100% of the time. Not on this earth
Hey y'all!! Have you stopped writing 2017 when writing the date yet? How's the first week of this new year been for you? Share in the comments! Ok, on to the QOTD!
I hate clichés. Especially those ones that are like "feel the fear and do it anyway" or "every thing you want is on the other side of fear." They irk me beyond belief. Which is why I hate that they're also true. 😩
Happy New Year, y'all!! 2018 certainly arrived with a bang, and I pray it is an amazing one for us all.
I'm not saying don't chase your passion, or don't fulfill what you feel is your purpose, but these days, when it seems like everyone else has it all figured out, everyone else knows exactly what they were born to do, and everyone else is doing so much better than you, it's easy to just want to figure it all out at once and get to whatever the destination is.
Since around this time, people are starting to compile their "New Year, New Me" lists and aspirations, here's a suggestion for us all: Judge less, think more.
I often say one of the things that frustrate me most about people, especially in Nigeria, is our lack of consideration and compassion.
